How Much Does Dedicated Internet Cost? What Drives the Price

Ask five providers what dedicated internet costs and you will get five different numbers, sometimes for the same building. That is not always padding. The price depends mostly on a few things you can check for yourself.

1. Is fiber already in your building?

This is usually the biggest factor. If a carrier already has fiber in your building, it can often deliver at a lower price and sooner. If the fiber is nearby, there may be a construction charge. If nothing is close, a build can cost far more than the service itself, so it is worth asking who else is already on site.

2. How much bandwidth do you need?

Price goes up with speed, but not in a straight line. A 1 Gbps circuit rarely costs ten times what 100 Mbps does, so compare a step up before you settle. Dedicated internet gives equal upload and download speeds, so measure both when you size it.

3. Contract term

Longer terms usually lower the monthly rate and may reduce or remove install charges. Weigh that against how long you expect to stay at that address. Before signing, read what happens if you move or leave early.

4. Service tier and diversity

A single circuit costs less than two circuits over physically separate paths. The right question is what an outage would cost you. At FiberFed, for example, monthly availability commitments run from 99.5% to 99.99% by tier, and the top tier uses two diverse paths. See our Service Level Agreement.

5. Location and carrier competition

Downtown buildings in major markets often have several carriers competing. A rural site may have one, or none. An aggregator can compare several networks for one address, which is often the fastest way to learn what your real options are.

How to compare quotes fairly

  • Check that every quote has the same bandwidth, term and service tier
  • Ask for install charges, taxes and fees separately from the monthly rate
  • Confirm whether equipment is included, and who owns it
  • Ask if the quote depends on a site survey. Estimates can change after one
  • Ask what repair target applies and what credits you get if it is missed
